No, not a super model, but a male fashion role model, an ambassador of the catwalk that can inspire you and your style. Think about someone you want to look like, someone that other people know about and someone who dresses well. Go to Google and do an image search for them, are there any themes or reoccurring trend that they like to use? Once you’ve seen a few things that you like, try going round a few high street stores looking for similar items. The best thing about this approach is that you don’t have to think too hard as you can look to your fashion icon for inspiration. One word of warning, however, as their styles may be a little too edgy or couture so be careful you don’t go too crazy.
Watch some music videos.
One great source of blue sky inspiration is watching music videos. Quite often you’ll see lots of cool looking guys dressed well (but not too formally) which you can draw some inspiration from. Try to pick up items that look cool in the video and that would also look great on you. Again, be careful with some of the clothes as they can be a bit dance orientated which may not be appropriate for you.
Look up some publications
If you’re looking for advice on specific pieces of clothing, such as suits or shoes, then there’s load of information out there ready to be found. There are a selection of men’s tailoring magazines that offer plenty of good advice, so why not flick through and take a look. There’s also some really good style and fashion blogs that talk about all the latest trends that are out there, as well as some hot picks of up and coming styles.
Check out stores
There’s nothing better for gauging what’s cool right now than going to a selection of high street stores and seeing if there are any particular items that they’re all pushing. Take note of things you think are cool but don’t buy till you’ve looked round everywhere. Think about what existing clothes you have and what kind of outfits you can make up with any of the clothes you want to buy. Stores will always try and push certain items, so don’t get sucked into the hype, take your time and really think about your purchases when shopping.
