Do You Need a Bedroom Makeover?

Bedroom Makeover For Your Home

Your home should be the only place where you feel peaceful, safe and secure. It should also be a place where you can express yourself in a way that makes you feel as if your home is a true reflection of who you are and who you hope to be. The way you decorate your home says a lot about you, but it can also affect how you feel day and night. Do you find that you are not sleeping as well as you would like? It just might be something that happened in your house. Maybe you need to make a bedroom makeover so you can get a better night’s sleep.

The beautiful bedding and throw pillows were what inspired this entire makeover- the soft layered textured bedding definitely needed a space that reflected all of the comfortable beauty.

Adding curtains to this room definitely makes it feel more finished. Yes, the curtains still need to be hemmed but we are loving the visual height they add to our 8ft ceilings. As we were getting ready for bed last night, Justin made the comment “this almost feels like a hotel room”, and he’s right, the curtains added so much to this space.

How To Makeover For Your Bedroom

First, study the room in which you sleep each night. Is there something in there to keep you awake? Do you have a pile of boxes in there that you haven’t saved? Is your desk there? Have you folded laundry that you never seem to have had a chance to get rid of? They remind you that there is more to do, and can stop you from sleeping well. The first step in a bedroom makeover is to remove or take care of anything that doesn’t seem finished or reminds you of chores and chores. Make your bedroom about sleep and nothing else. You will sleep better.

We added some color to the bed by layering this vintage inspired velvet pillow in front of this textured ivory pillow.

We added affordable artwork by BFF Printshop, and love the character they add over the bed.

Accessories For Bedroom remodel

To make more of a bedroom makeover, think about what you need for a good night’s sleep. Do you wake up when you see the light? Many cannot sleep unless they are in total darkness. You may need to go out and buy light-blocking blinds and curtains that are thicker and darker. It can hold out the sun if you want to sleep after the sun comes up, and it can also keep the light away from outdoor lamp posts and passing cars. This part of a bedroom makeover is easy and solves a lot of problems. Think about dark eye masks too, as they can help deal with any glow that you can’t completely remove.

This linen throw is perfect for summer and we love how the soft ivory color ties in with this beautiful textured rug by Loloi.

This DIY fabric headboard made the bed feel so much more finished- we shared the process in our stories, here. It was so simple, we used 1″ plywood that we cut to size and rounded the edges, then wrapped in a couple layers of batting and secured to the plywood with staples. Then we took an extra curtain panel and doubled that and wrapped that around the batting and stapled to the plywood. We hung the headboard on the wall by attaching 2 D-Rings on the backside of the headboard.

Color Of Your Walls For Bedroom Remodel

Pay attention to the color of your walls. To do a bedroom makeover, you have to think about the color you choose for this room. There are several colors, such as green and blue, which are very calming. Other colors, like bright lemon yellow, aren’t a great idea for a bedroom, even if you love that color. When you walk into a room, the colors on the walls and the colors you choose for accessories can make a big difference to how you feel. You want to choose a color for your bedroom makeover that makes you feel relaxed, not refreshed. Save those bright colors for the rest of your home.

We purchased this lamp when it came out a couple of months ago and we love how substantial it is in this corner.

We brought this found vase in to go on the other nightstand to balance out the lamp. As well as we filled the vase with freshly cut Olive branches from our yard and placed one of our favorite candles beside the vase. (tip- we placed a skinny Weck jar inside this vase filled with water so we did not have to fill the entire vase with water or worry about ruining the vase)

Furniture For Your Bedroom Remodel

Lastly, remove your exercise equipment, television, and stereo from your bed as part of your bedroom makeover. They won’t give you the feeling of calm you need. A television may be great for removing noise to help you sleep, but there are better ways to get the same effect. Buy a small fan, or a white noise machine if you like buzzing while you sleep. That, in combination with all the other things you do in your bedroom remodel, will help you get the better night’s sleep you desire.

The texture of this cotton duvet is so beautiful and cozy.

We used the ivory soft cotton duvet on our bed with matching shams and then folded the natural gray cotton duvet at the foot of the bed for added layering.
